How often have we heard the phrase “we are what we eat”; someone will laugh at it, well I wouldn’t be so skeptic. Just because our life span has increased on average doesn’t mean we don’t get sick; actually we get sicker then before, we just have more ways to heal ourselves, with rest and medicines, but is this really healthy? Think like this: cancers related to our digestive systems are on the rise.
Everyone loves to eat. Well, who does not? The fast food business has boomed these past few years surrounding us with delicious foods everywhere. Also, with the pressure each of us faces everyday, eating all the stress out seems to be very effective. As a result, our health suffers. We may not notice it but in every food we consume, it can affect our body in both good and bad ways.
Obesity is a problem for many people. One out of three women is obese, according to statistics. This is starting to grow out of control in different other countries as well. It is something not to be taken lightly, though. Along with obesity come many health issues such as heart problems, diabetes, stroke and various types of cancer. Now, everyone deserves to be healthy. It isn’t really true that starving is the key to weight loss and health.
Weight loss can be achieved through many ways. I have been trying some weight loss formulas before writing my books and articles. One way to lose weight which I haven’t tried is by starving yourself and I can assure you, this is not truly healthy. One effective way to weight loss is by drinking lots of water. Water is a natural appetite suppressant and so, drinking a full glass of water at the beginning of every meal lessens your stomach’s ability to hold much food. It also gives you proper hydration and fullness.
So what’s the best way of losing weight? It’s obvious; one must eat a balanced diet to attain weight loss. Carbohydrates must be included as an energy source and some protein to burn fats. It is also important not to skip meals for weight loss. Skipping meals will activate your body’s defense mechanisms and will store the foods it takes in as fat, for energy. In addition, although most people do not want to do this, exercise. Keeping an active lifestyle is essential in weight loss. Exercising helps one move easier and feels better. It is essential in burning fats thus, helping you stay in shape.
The key to weight loss is eating the right foods and burning the calories we get from them the right way. If these calories aren’t used correctly, they turn into fats. Remember that weight loss is something precious you can give to yourself and will be for your own health’s benefit. Now all of this is good talk, but it’s not as easy as it sounds; as said before our stress lives, fast food, to tired to cook, ignorance on food quality and ingredients it all adds up to confusion and laziness.
The truth is; permanent weight loss is a myth, only when one changes his life style those extra pounds can really be dropped. It’s a strong decision such as when smokers want to quit smoking. Once you take that decision you are unstoppable. How do you complement that decision with food? Well, if you are really obese, besides going after diets and books which will keep you on track, you must see a specialist.
This is my opinion on losing weight without starving yourself: the Anglo-Saxon culture is not so much concerned about the quality of the food you ingest. I come from a Mediterranean culture. Food is part of your everyday life. Quality is everything. There are more overweight people in an Anglo-Saxon society. Why?
Because the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and fat is not respected: in general you eat a big first course or second course alone. It is far better to eat smaller portions but you should include a first, second, side dish and finish it with some fruit. It seems like a paradox but you actually eat more, you’ll feel fuller and your cravings will subside. (Which by the way are also triggered by sugar).
